Well -almost.Īs for set dance music - it’s mostly reels! Drives me crazy! And I HATE brushes in a music band! And as a matter of fact I”ve never liked the accordion as an instrument.
Some of the tunes I can play inside out by this time. If I get really frustrated practicing, I just take out my flute and play it instead. Actually I really like to experiment with other recordings and it all works, of course. Also the way of playing a tune is suited to the dance. I don’t like a lot of the recordings we dance to but the tunes are good and the tempo is right. It also has to do with the fact that the whole thing of step dance feisanna was set up for school children. The whole step dance world is set up that way. The CD recordings for dancers are set up like the feisanna: two dancers perform and the next two have to start exactly after they finish. Many musicians would refuse to come to every lesson. In my French dance group my musicians do that because that’s the way I hired them. Did you ever try that? Start - stop, start - stop.
I think a lot of dancers would love it if they had a private musician playing for them at every practice.
